Australia recorded its highest rate of annual price growth in decades and is one of the fastest growing in the world, ranked seventh out of 55 countries according Knight Frank’s Global House Price Index.
The key driver for the significant growth was incredibly low interest-rate and more buyers than there were homes.
Sellers are reluctant to put their house on the, with limited supply available to buy in the areas to which they want to move, so it has become a vicious circle.
The federal government has begun an inquiry into housing affordability and supply, however in the short term, there really isn’t anything anyone can do to rebalance demand and supply other than restricting available credit.
